The Secret of Royal Thai Cuisine

At Le Royal Meridien Phuket Yacht Club you can now get the chance to learn the secrets of preparing this famous cuisine. Thanks to Chef Taweesak Trakoolwattana, Executive Sous Chef, the hotel is now offering a choice of Thai Cooking Courses, tailored to suit both the complete beginner and the cook with some experience.

Chef Taweesak as a young child was the one who helped prepare the daily meals for the family and made visits to the market to get the best bargains in quality and price. This natural passion for fine food has continued throughout his career as a successful chef. Now, this passion and enthusiasm to pass on his knowledge to guests is the hallmark of his classes.

If this is your first time to try Thai cooking then the course held on Saturday is perfect for you. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. you will see how to cook seven delicious dishes before enjoying them during a leisurely lunch. Chef Taweesak will explain all the different ingredients from the wonderful display of herbs, spices and vegetables at the Promenade restaurant, overlooking beautiful Nai Harn Bay : an unbelievable setting for the cooking classes.

The full-day course on Sunday, the Royal Thai Cooking Class, starts at 8 a.m. with an early visit to the market in Phuket Town. There you will have a chance to see all the freshest produce and sample a slice of typical Thailand. Chef Taweesak will accompany you and is ready to explain everything and answer all your questions.

This experience is not to be missed and a very important part of any Thai cooking class. On your return to the hotel the “hands on” experience starts. Under the guidance of Chef Taweesak and his assistant you will pick out your ingredients and cook a selection of dishes. In all, eight, but you will receive recipes for fifteen and enjoy the fruits of your labours for lunch!

Throughout the courses, Chef Taweesak will explain the different uses for all the herbs and spices and what ingredients can be substituted if you find difficulty getting them in your home country. He has specially created all the recipes in order to make Thai cooking a little easier so that when you return home armed with your new-found knowledge and recipes, the tastes that you create WILL be just like those you experienced in Thailand.

Chef Taweesak has also designed a special set of twelve, blank greeting cards each with a different recipe and picture. The set is available in the hotel boutique and makes for a perfect gift.

Prices for both courses are inclusive of all the recipes information about the ingredients, a personalised certificate and a souvenir gift.
