The House and Garden Coffee Shop opened late last year and imports
large quantities of pottery from Vietnam as well as bringing local
pottery from the northern regions of Thailand. The largest piece,
standing at four feet tall and with a diameter of the same, would
be an imposing addition to any garden . . however don't despair;
they also stock pots from as small as six inches.
Relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or a cool drink while you wander
around the indoor and outdoor areas looking for the pot that would
be just right for your veranda. Many already adorn hotels and restaurants
around Phuket so don't be surprised to see them in your hotel lobby
or room. If you need any advice ask Khun Luk or Khun Ann (the joint
proprietors) as they will help you with any questions about the
pottery. The sizes and shapes vary enormously, but the popular colours
for the Vietnamese are green, blue and aqua. However, you may find
it difficult to get two pots exactly alike, because the attraction
of these pots is in their individuality.
Although the shape may be almost the same, the colours can vary
according to the glazing of the individual (they are all hand-glazed
by high-quality craftsmen and women). If your interest is not in
glazed pots, there is also a wide range of unglazed and terracotta
pots, again in all shapes and sizes.
The prices are very reasonable compared to overseas, so you may
be tempted to ship some back to your home country . . .no problem
as shipping can be arranged to anywhere in the world, at extremely
competitive prices. The House and Garden Coffee Shop is open six
days a week (9 am. to 6 pm.) but closed on Sundays. They are on
Thepkatsatri road, close to The Boat Lagoon.
Another company stocking similar types of pots is Coconut Grove,
located in Nanai Road, Patong. They are open seven days a week,
for information and appointments, please contact Tel (66 76) 340364
