Phuket
is surrounded by beautiful islands and some of the best diving in
the world. Any visitor to the island should consider spending at
least part of a holiday sailing to remote areas that have no people,
no noise and are far away from the modern world. There is no more
relaxing way to explore the Andaman region than by boat.
The S/Y Meroja is an elegant 85 foot ketch built on Phuket
for cruising and sailing around the Andaman Sea. It is the perfect
escape from one's busy life.
Chartered by Thai Marine Leisure whose office is in Phuket's
upscale Boat Lagoon, the Meroja has all the comforts of a five star
hotel. It's a great vessel to join with a group of friends or even
to share with total strangers who are also wanting an adventure
on the seas.
There are five private air conditioned cabins with private bathrooms
all paneled in beautiful wood. The boat is a piece of art from bow
to stern.
The S/Y Meroja is available for private charter but also offers
six day/five night cruises around some of the world's most scenic
islands. A typical itinerary leaves Phuket and sails around the
upper reaches of Phang Nga Bay. While sailing somewhat close to
famous James Bond Island, the Captain of the Meroja, Philippe Cathala,
carefully contacts with commercial tour boats packed with groups.
A cruise aboard the Meroja is private and allows each passenger
to be alone with the remarkable nature around Phang Nga Bay.
The charter continues down to the islands around Krabi's
Rai Le and Ao Nang Beaches. Here the Meroja anchors for the night
between the paradise of two islands joined by a sand bar where sailors
can walk back and forth between islands during low tide.
The journey continues to Maya Bay off Phi
Phi Island. If the winds are favorable, the Meroja floats while
guests snorkel or dive around some of the best coral in the region.
Another option, is to moor near Ton Sai Bay and go aboard Phi Phi
and enjoy the island's expansive nightlife and fine restaurants.
But for those who enjoy getting away from it all, they can sit back
with a good book or a pair of binoculars and just enjoy the steep
limestone formations that hide caves where Chinese merchants have
been collecting bird's nest for centuries.
A cruise on the Meroja takes the guest to spectacular islands in
Trang Province far away from international tourism. Visits are made
to lagoons and caves hidden in the islands by dingy.
Finally the cruise ends back on the mainland where relaxed and happy
guests are transported to Trang airport where the twenty minute
flight returns them to the reality of Phuket airport.
Included in the six day cruise are superb meals for breakfast,
lunch and dinner. There's a box of soft drinks and beer and wine,
lots of storytelling, and all the time you need to read and relax
and have a real holiday.
