You can you find this idyllic setting in one of the Ocean View
Rooms at the Thavorn Beach Village. The five-star resort lies about
four kilometres from bustling Patong in Phuket,
occupying the whole of Nakalay Bay and the adjacent hillside.
It was originally named the Thavorn Bay Resort and consisted of
only 74 intimate, thatched bungalows lining the shoreline, within
beautiful tropical gardens. In late 1997, the newest part of the
resort was completed with the addition of 24 Poolside Villas; 24
Pool Terrace Villas; 60 Ocean View Villas and 12 Ocean View Suites
(one or two-bedroom) as well as two new restaurants and lobby area.
Traditional Thai architecture blends easily into the surrounding
lush, tropical forest. The spacious villas are fitted out in luxurious
style using teakwood and beautiful Thai fabrics. Nothing is left
wanting: the bathrooms have separate baths and showers, many with
private Jacuzzis.
All the rooms have beautifully appointed balconies, especially
the Ocean
View Villas and Sea View Bungalows that afford you a wonderful
chance to see the beautiful colours of the sunset, whilst enjoying
a quiet drink before dinner. Alternatively, step outside your room
and wander around the exotic tropical gardens to see banana and
papaya trees alongside many plants and flowers that are unusual
even in Thailand.
One of the resort's best features is an enormous free-form swimming
pool (at 4,500 square metres, one of the largest in Thailand). It
meanders around the villa area of the resort and direct access is
available (just slide off your balcony) from each of the Pool Terrace
Villas. There are lots of nooks and crannies around the pool
where you can relax in private, use the aqua beds for a soothing
massage or swim up to the pool bar and enjoy a refreshing drink.
"20 to 30 percent of our guests are honeymoon couples and
the resort has accommodation to suit every taste," says Mr
Eric Hallin, the resort General Manager. "On arrival we arrange
rose petals on the bed and in the bath or Jacuzzi, and small complimentary
gifts . . . we try to make their stay as memorable as we can."
The hotel can also cater for the wedding ceremony not just the
honeymoon. Last year a Japanese couple had their ceremony in the
Thai Sala next to the pool. "We try to arrange the weddings
to suit each couple," says Khun Seiko, the Guest Relations
Officer.
The romance and relaxation of the resort is perfectly complemented
by the three restaurant outlets. Enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner
at the Old Siam Nakalay, the Thai restaurant set in the open air
overlooking the bay. They also have an indoor, northern style "Kantoke"
room where you can eat whilst seated on floor cushions.
The Marisa Terrace serves delicious buffet breakfasts and a full
range of international food. On the Sea specialises in seafood again
right on the beach, a perfect place for that romantic evening. If
it's privacy you wish for, order a barbecue on your own villa balcony
or a candlelit dinner on the beach, the hotel will gladly arrange
this for you. Executive Sous Chef, Rene Oskram, is always happy
to create mouth-watering dishes for you on special occasions.
No stay at the Thavorn Beach Village would be complete without
treating yourself to some pampering at The Nakalay
Spa. Recently completed with arched roofs and open ceilings,
the soothing smells, the calming sounds of flutes in the background,
the feel of fresh fluffy towels and the soft hands of the skilled
therapists provide everything to "seduce the senses".
Spread over two floors with open walkways, garden showers and a
Thai Sala, the Spa features eight private treatment rooms, two jet
rooms and a relaxation area in a tranquil garden setting. The Nakalay
Suite and Marisa Deluxe Suite were created for couples where you
and your partner can indulge yourselves in any of the wide range
of treatments available, along with steam, sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi
in complete privacy.
Try the Full Body Travel Treatment (an aromatherapy treatment to
combat jet lag, fatigue and stress) a deep-cleanse facial or the
Nakalay Deluxe Massage, where two therapists work in harmony, combining
continuous synchronised movements with the ancient art of aromatherapy.
All products used in the treatments are 100 percent pure and natural.
This blend of Thai tradition, lush foliage, snaking waterways and
wide ocean vistas creates a mood of immediate peace and quiet. If
it's romance and relaxation that you require, look no further.
