Once in a while, one comes across a spa that manages
to ‘get it just right’. Ylang Spa at
Andaman White Beach Resort has successfully designed a simple,
practical and functional spa that is also aesthetically appealing.
The well-conceived and tastefully decorated reception area with
its tranquil sea views is an alluring overture to a pampering spa
session. The air inside is infused with the aroma of aromatic oils
and soft, soothing music plays in the background. You are greeted
by friendly staff and served refreshing tea. This relaxing atmosphere
integrates with an overall practical and pleasing design.
At Ylang Spa, the Jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms are in close proximity
to private massage rooms. So is the bathroom. Those of you familiar
with spa treatments are well aware that after drinking a few cups
of tea, the firm hands of the masseuse can be quite unrelenting.
A lavatory close at hand is not only convenient, but a necessity.
If you are in a very expensive private pavilion but the loo is across
the courtyard, past the swimming pool and restaurant full of hotel
guests and you are dripping in essential oils and clad in a sarong
? well, you get the picture. And if the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi
are also spread far apart, the design is not functional or practical
by any stretch of the imagination. Surprisingly, some of the more
upscale and expensive spas do not even have saunas or steam rooms.

Ylang Spa offers the whole range of body and facial treatments
that are as special as its unassumingly unique design. I was pampered
by the exclusive Swiss Lift Up Firming Facial as well as the Erawan
Thai Traditional massage.
The innovative Swiss Lift Up Firming Facial is exclusive to Ylang
Spa and uses products imported from Switzerland. The creams penetrate
deep into the skin’s pores to cleanse, smoothen and motivate
blood circulation by increasing oxygen supply. It promotes moisture
absorption by the skin’s cells and helps prevent melanin production,
which darken the skin with age-spots. I must admit the facial worked
miracles on my tired old face. This facial,popular with movie stars
in Bangkok, is only available at Ylang Spa in Phuket.
The small masseuse with an incredibly strong body employed all
her strength during my Erawan Thai Traditional Massage. Stretching
my arms behind my head, she used her knees and elbows to knead and
massage my back. The tension-relieving massage was perfect. It is
only recommended for the physically active and those preferring
strong massages.
Several other full-body massages, facials, body scrubs and package
treatments are available. Ylang Spa uses all natural herbal and
high quality imported products. In accordance with its high quality
yet simplistic and practical design, the products used and services
available at this spa echo the same approach. They are outstanding.
Quality, at the end of the day, is totally apparent in the results.
