Timber Hut has cornered the market in Phuket
Town for those wanting to party hard until late every night. There's
simply no competition. Timber Hut is where you can find out exactly
how much adrenalin you have coursing through your blood.
Not much happens until 11pm. Before that, it's a quiet place to
meet friends, enjoy a beer and the ambience of a pub that perfectly
integrates both Thai and Western design. Flags with mythical animals
hang from the ceiling, the video screen plays random tapes including
cuts from America's Most Stupid Home Videos in rotation with Thai
Boxing and the latest dance video hits. The inside of Timber Hut
reminds the pub goer of a German biergarten.
But Timber Hut really takes off when the band featuring Phuket's
most enterprising showman, Boonkurt, takes to the stage. Boonkurt
is the island's most admired rock and roller.
He's a professional performer who works the audience. His long
black hair flies through the air while he gets down on his guitar
and works out popular renditions of Western songs.
By 11:30pm, Timber Hut is packed. Not full. Packed. Where all the
people came from is a surprise but full it is. And full of pretty
girls in tight pants who spend the next few hours until closing,
jumping up and down and singing along with Boonkurt. It's something
to be experienced to be believed.
When the band plays popular Thai songs, it's even better. The Thai
people are very musical and any opportunity to sing is taken which
explains the popularity of karaoke bars around the island.
At Timber Hut, local young Thais sing along to their heart's content
as loud as they want because volume is the name of the game at Timber
Hut. It's a rock and roll music palace. No place to talk but to
sing and dance. It's great fun and wonderful to see a performer
like Boonkurt make so many young women so happy.
You can catch the action at Timber Hut every night on Yaowarat
Road, Phuket Town.
