Miguel brought his international background and experience to every
aspect of the design for Gitano including the menus: "Every time
someone comes to Gitano, they should experience something different.
I wanted to create a challenging environment," explains Miguel.
This bar and pub is funky, outlandish and has the power to shock.
Along the walls are classic black-and-white photos of beautiful
bodies. Video monitors blink in the background, set to the same
channel but adjusted to display different colour contrasts. Miguel
has inlaid multicoloured ceramic pieces into the floor and from
the ceiling hang transparent mixed-media figures that seem to fly
around the room (the table tops are designed as board games with
the dice and counters provided).
“Something about our concept”, says Miguel, “is that the atmosphere
of Gitano offers a mix between restaurant and bar, both in fancy
design, attracting various clientele. Many nationalities walk in
here, more and more also because of our delicious Mexican food from
our new chef. Asking our customers why they like Gitano, I hear
the most: '"because it feels so easy"', '"great for talking and
having fun"', '"erotic with style”' and '“good service”'.
The recently opened second floor is also convenient if somebody
would like to have a more private meeting or party. “The main reason
for me is that being on the ground floor and looking up through
the opening to the second floor, full of plants and the special
lighting it creates, makes a much more pleasant atmosphere”, he
says. There is seating for 48 people at the normal eating tables.
Including bar and bar tables Gitano can accommodate around 100 customers.
The recent addition of new chef, Paddy "Flaco" Hannon from San
Francisco has excited Miguel and his clientele. Paddy has an extensive
fine-dining background including eating houses in New York, New
Orleans and Santa Fe. Miguel is particularly thrilled by Paddy's
love of Jazz.
All in all, Gitano is a very different concept for Phuket.
Try it and see... the food, entertainment and delightful presence
of Miguel make for a great evening's entertainment or a quiet, relaxed

that too!).
