Bangkok Phuket Hospital is the leader in providing essential medical
services to the island's visitors and residents. Most recently,
the hospital opened a clinic in Canal Village at Laguna Phuket to
serve the emergency and other medical needs of visitors to this
exclusive resort complex.
Fully trained staff and a new ambulance help ensure that both local
residents and tourists will be well taken care of in case of medical
need.
Bangkok Phuket Hospital is affiliated with Bangkok Hospital in
Bangkok
which allows for a transfer of medical knowledge when needed.
An example of expert medical consultation that Bangkok Phuket Hospital
offers are the regular visits by Dr. Anand Lattanand who holds a
Diploma from the American Board of Dermatology as well as more complex
diplomas in his field of diagnosis dermatology.
Dr. Anand practiced his craft in Philadelphia where he also taught
Histopathology, the science of analyzing the skin, at Temple University
and more recently in Florida before returning to Thailand
to open a medical practice.
"Of course for foreign visitors and residents to Phuket,
their skin is usually subjected to intense exposure to the sun which
is generally not healthy," explains Dr. Anand. "It's important
that when the skin develops a rash, a discoloration or an uneven
surface, that a medical opinion is sought. The treatment for eczema
and fungus, both common in the tropics, are quite different and
the sooner that effective treatment is given, the less risk of a
secondary infection."
Dr. Anand warns against excessive exposure to the sun especially
as one becomes older as the skin is more fragile with less elasticity.
For bumps that appear on the body, Dr. Anand warns that they can
be one of three types of skin cancer and early detection is the
best way to prevent serious problems.
"One should always examine their body on a regular basis to
check for red spots, bumps with scales or large dark freckles,"
he cautions. "For those living in the tropics, a medical check
by a dermatologist at least once a year should prevent major skin
problems."
